Eligibility Guidelines
Can you apply for help from my4walls.org.uk?
Demand for affordable homes is high especially in areas where property is expensive.
So to share out homes and public funding fairly and responsibly, we have to be
clear about who we can help.
Applicants for New Build HomeBuy, Open Market HomeBuy and Resales should:
-
have at least £2,500 to cover the costs of buying a home, for example paying
for legal fees and stamp duty (charged on homes costing £120,000 or more)
-
have permanent employment – not temporary – or a fixed term contract
-
have a minimum annual income to qualify for a mortgage. This is usually £18,000
gross (single or joint) but could be lower or higher. Households with a single
or joint income of £60,000 per annum gross or over will not qualify for HomeBuy
schemes (however each application is assessed on its own merit)
-
have proof that they cannot afford to purchase a property on the open market to
meet their current housing needs without the help of my4walls or HomeBuy
-
be a housing association or council tenant or
-
be a key worker (see the list at the bottom of the page for the list of those
who may currently get help)
-
be a first time buyer working in the local area and contributing to the local
economy (you could be a construction, factory or shop worker for example) or
-
be a current home owner looking for a new home because a relationship has ended
or because of a house clearance project or displacement
-
show that you are not in mortgage or rent arrears or in breach of your current
tenancy agreement
-
be a British national citizen or have permanent leave to remain in the UK. People
from member states of the EU/European Economic Area may also apply if they are
currently living and working in the UK. A work permit is not proof.
-
be aged 18 or over and have a bank, Post Office or building society account.
Please note: people who already own a property that meets their current housing need cannot
apply.
